Everything Else

images from

This girl. The blog you're looking at. The one who's typing this right now is jobless. Unemployed. And not enjoying it. She trys everyday to find a reasonable job. One that pays enough. One that will make me feel a little more adult, a little like a college grad, a little less temp job. I have the need for creativity, I dream for a job where I can be creative, passionite. I wish that I could get payed for music research. Now that would be idealic. But alas, I need to be realistic. I studyed education, something I am passionite about and frivously searching out an education career that I will be proud of.

What I am going to blog about today is Everything Else that I'm thinking about besides job hunting. Cause that's not interesting.

1. I've previously expressed my LOVE LOVE LOVE for This American Life. Today my friend introduced me to Radio Lab. A similar radio show that picks a topic but address it from all different angles. Whereas This American Life picks a topic and has segments addressing/story telling etc. on that topic. Today I listened to my first Radio Lab episode: Laughter. Which reminded me of one of my favorite This American Life episodes where Ira Glass (the host) laughs uncontrollably. I could listen to it over and over and never get sick of it. It is so addicting to hear someone laugh and not be able to contain it. It's joyous! Speaking of Ira Glass and joyousness. How can I get myself a job working for Ira Glass? I'll shine his shoes, clean his glasses, de-lint his long as I can work for him. Okay...I said this post wouldn't be about job hunting.

2. Maggie is coming to Salt Lake today!!!!! That's right! My roommate is finally making the trip from Illinois to Utah to live with us. Have I told you how funny, and smart, and beautiful she is?

3. Taking my second to last Photoshop 101 class tonight. I'm learning lots and realizing how much more I need and want to learn.

4. Getting back to Etsy! Teen and I have been in transition and we are finally getting all our craft-ditties organized. Thinking about chains and mushrooms. Not together.

5. Superbowl food and how much I love guacamole.

6. Finding a recipe to match the delicousness of Trader Joes Fig Pizza

Music Monday 16

I loved listening to NPRs "The Year In Music From All Songs Considered." NPR's Bob Boilen, Carrie Brownstein, Stephen Thompson, and Robin Hilton shared their opinions on 2008's music. Most of the featured songs weren't a surprise to me, but I had not heard of the band Blind Pilot till this episode. Then a few weeks later my friend Livi put their song "Go on, Say It" on a mix. Then my friend Greg tells me that Blind Pilot is a must-have. I must say...I agree. I really like the sound of Portland, Oregon's Blind Pilot and their 2008 album '3 Rounds and a Sound.'
Listen to "One Red Thread", "Oviedo", "Story I Heard"

I am wishing I was back home in Seattle, cause then I would be heading to their show tonight.

My ears are happy today.

Sweet Disposition

Last week I blogged about my attempt to see the hit Sundance film '500 Days of Summer.' I thought I would have to wait till it's release to theaters and see it with the rest of the world. But, to my delight I was able to see the last viewing in Park City on Saturday whilst on a blind date. We had fourth row seats and sat right behind the main lead Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He did a Q&A afterwards which was very cool and interesting. The movie was FANTASTIC. Can't stop thinking about it. The music was perfect. The order in which the film was played was clever and fresh. The theme of blue in the film was very intriguing. Joseph Gordon-Levitt said the noticeable color of blue in the film was solely inspired by Zooey's eyes. Neat.

Can't wait to see it again!

Take {ME} Away Shows

I don't believe I have properly expressed my love for Take Away Shows. It all started a year ago when my friend Jonathan posted about Yeasayer's Take Away Show. I was blown away-in love.

It's an obsession and I'm not even worried about it. I could go on forever.

Good Winter

Just purchased Bon Iver's EP "Blood Bank" and follow up to "For Emma, Forever Ago."

I've mentioned my love for Bon Iver on this blog here and here. I found him quite randomly last year and his beautiful voice filled my ears for my entire winter in California. I'm so glad I got to see him in L.A. and I keep coming back to his album.

In other music news:
Currently listening to new Animal Collective "Merriweather Post Pavilion." I'm not going to pretend that I know much about them. Cause I don't. But I really like this album. Listen to "My Girls" and "Summertime Clothes."

{Dark Was The Night}

Coming this February 17th is a glorious compilation of music to benefit Red Hot Charity which is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for HIV and AIDS. Some of the guys from The National produced the album and it is quite the line up if I do say so myself.

Andrew Bird+Arcade Fire+Beach House+Bon Iver+Beirut+The Decemberists+Feist+Ben Gibbard+Grizzly Bear+Iron & Wine+Conor Oberst+The New Pornographers+Spoon+Sufjan Stevens+Yeasayer+Yo La Tengo+My Morning Jacket+Spoon+My Brightest Diamond

Just to name a few.

Today on their myspace the featured track is Yeasayers "Tightrope." Have I told you how much I love Yeasayer? They really just make me all sorts of music giddy inside.

500 days of Jane

1. Wished G. Crew a Happy Birthday! What up 5 year old!!!!

2. Inaugurated it UP!

3. Waited patiently for our mattresses to arrive today! Now...If only I could use some magical Anthropologie powers to make it ultimate cuteness.

4. Stood in line for 45 minutes to try and see this movie. Looking forward to it's release into regular theaters soon enough. Apparently it is THE hot ticket for Sundance goers.

5. Enjoyed watching a live human experiment take place: A Sundance volunteer told a group of 50ish people to get in a number ordered line. Oh boy, you should have seen the difficulty of such a simple task. I laughed quite enjoyingly.

6. Worried and continually concerned for my brother-in-law. Believe in the power of prayer.

big bow

I keep thinking of Aretha Franklin's Bow Hat at this mornings inauguration. I liked it.

Music Monday 15

Empire of the Sun has been popping up alot in the music blogs I view. I find their sound to be very MGMT esque. Which I am fond of in this age of electronic music. Not over done, just right. They are a collaboration of Luke Steele from The Sleepy Jackson and Nick Littlemore from Pnau----which didn't help me cause I've never heard of either band before. But after listening to these guys I'm curious to find how their main projects sound and how different they are.

Listen to "Walking on a Dream" (very friendly to the ears) also try "We are the People."

How can I get myself to Austin, Texas this March??? HOW??? Someone answer me this question because everyday my intensity/desire/need to attend this years SXSW grows stronger.

Just call me "Holly Golightly"

I won Livi's blog giveaway!!! There is something very mysterious and enticing about wearing an eye mask to bed. Maybe I feel a little more Holly Golightly a little less Bridget Jones. Or maybe it's the joy of winning a blog giveaway. Either way I was thrilled when they arrived in the mail. Thanks Livi!!!

I love my,

Our family does a Christmas exchange every year and it is definately a highlight. This year my brother-in-law really out-did himself. With this, this, and shirt from here. He also suprised me with the Sigur Ros documentarty "Heima" My friend Jonathan introduced me to this a year ago and I fell in love. It is the most peaceful, tranquil, inspiring music documentary out there. The band makes a trip back to their home in Iceland and plays a series of free, unannounced shows in the glories of Icelands beauty. I've noticed lately that many commercials and movie trailors are tapping into Sigur Ros music and it really just hits to the core, even if it's some playstation game.

Thanks DAVE!

St. Geo {Dizzy times 2}

Yesterday I posted about some quality park time we had in St. George. I wanted to add on two more videos of ultimate cuteness for your viewing pleasure.

you're welcome!

St. Geo {Dizzy}

Whilst in St. George we visited a crazy-cool park down the street from our condos. I think the adults had as much fun as the kids. We went back 3 times. The park is full of all this modernized equipment, we ran around experimenting with all the features and many produced head-spinning, stomach-twisting enjoyment.

St. Geo {Christmas Eve/Day}

So E, Teen and I drove down to St. George on Christmas Eve to meet up with my parents and family for the Holidays. It's been a tradition and nice meeting ground for all us siblings to celebrate Christmas. We arrived a little early and no key to enter our condo we had some time to spare and some fun with the camera. {Videos to post later}

Christmas. Opened presents, ate Christmas bread, Valkyrie, read my new book, and my sister and her family arrived by night.

Holidays = Family

I have been on vacation which means a few things...I haven't blogged in awhile...and I've taken lots of pictures. So in the next little while I'll be catching up this blog with my Holidays. 2008 was full of memories and I'm glad I have been documenting them through this blog. I look forward to this new year of new friends, new job, new location, new experiences, and new learnings (not a word, I know).
I have many goals to work on in 2009.

+ Get a library card and read daily
+ Strengthen my relationships with my family
+ Be a better friend
