Costa Mesa

A perfect day:
Disneyland with friends and all my favorite rides and some of them twice.

In order of love:
Space Mountain
Tower of Terror
Screamin
Big Thunder Mtn
Indiana Jones

Then

We met up with friends in Costa Mesa and waited way too long to eat at Umami Burger. While we waited we walked around The Camp Site and The Lab. But Umami was taking too long for your hungry selves, so we bounced across the street to TK Burger which was the best choice we've ever made. Gruuub.

Next

We had "cream on the inside" at McDonald's. Cone season is in full effect.

Finally

We finished the night with a roaring round of darts.

The Ecology Center

In celebration of Earth Day (April 22nd) we went to San Juan's Ecology Center for their Earth Day celebration. It was pretty kid based and SUPER well done. I loved how well they executed with great graphics, activities, and aesthetics. On point. It's a really cool place and if I lived in California I'd love to go to some of their classes and workshops.
Just makes you want garden, and eat fresh, and be outside.

Sugarhouse Park

We took advantage of spring and met at the park with salads in hand. It was the perfect way to celebrate our 12th time meeting as a cooking group.

Ellie made a delicious shrimp, mango, cucumber salad that I can't stop thinking about.

Brooke made and arugula, pecan, roasted beet, balsamic salad. And you can never go wrong with beets in my book.

I made a lemony lentil and bell pepper salad from Power Foods cookbook.

It was an ideal combo of salads.

"body is in somebody"

4/8/12
Sunday Night
Treats and Game

Song Game:
2 teams
1 bowl of words (that everyone has written on stripes of paper)

Team 1 picks a word and reads it aloud. They have 30 seconds to come up with a song that has that word in it. (and must sing at least 7 words from the song)
Team 2 uses the same word to sing a different song with 30 seconds on the clock.
Back and forth the teams go using the same word and different songs until a team can't come up with a new song in under 30 seconds.

April classroom

spring 2
spring
Our art teacher came in and taught the students how to do a landscape scene using colored pencils for the sky and stems and fingerprints in paint for tulips. They turned out adorable. Those little tiny fingers.

tulips
cherry blossoms
I taught all the first graders how to do this spring tree with cherry blossoms. We only used one finger in brown paint and made x's and y's for the branches, then filled in the bottom for the trunk. I pre cut the tissue paper and they glued on their blossoms. It made our windowless room a little more livable.

rain bulletin board
The idea here was to make patterns out of spring colored construction paper squares and we cut out a raindrop. I also guided them through a poem writing activity. They had to write a word or two for the following lines:
Object: Spring
Color:
Sound:
Action:
Memory:
Question:

I typed them up and they LOVED seeing their poem in print. They read it over and over and felt very proud.

and now I'm off-track for 3 1/2 weeks. Good day.

God is good
God is generous
God is forgiving

"...surely the thing God enjoys most about being God is the thrill of being merciful..."
