zero waste house

On the plane to California I read an article in Sunset magazine about a Zero Waste house. They have no trash, no garbage, nothing, zero. I've been thinking about it a lot since and I'm sure my family is sick of me bringing it up. I'm fascinated. They are even minimal recyclers. It's incredible. Certainly it's something to be proud of when you do everything in your power to reduce your carbon footprint, but I'm also in love with how simple and clean their house is. I keep thinking about this image from their pantry and how much I want those glass jars. I love when cupboards and closets have consistent and same organizing method.

I'm on a hunt to find these jars and to eventually and gradually create the above. Shim and Sons just posted about these jars she purchased that are so perfect. I love the clear glass, the size, and the orange peeking out. She got them from Canoe. I then found some French Le Parfait glass jars on Overstock and Amazon. Pretty good deals. Ideally I'd be bringing them to the grocery store to get filled. But goodness! that takes pre-thought and planning. Impressive life.

Introducing...

It's about time I introduce you to Supernova Granola. A place for beautiful food and majoring in Granola. I'm still in the very early & beginning stages. (after all, I have a full time teaching job)

I'd like you to take a look around. And check my blog too! I've been posting over there for a few months now. I give ideas of how to use the granola. And I keep you informed on what I'm experimenting with. Let me know what you think. I'd also like to know what you wish to see over there.

I plan on selling my own granola as well as giving tips and hints at a healthier lifestyle.

and a big thanks to Maggie and Egan for huge helps.

"pine cones and little cuties"

This is for the 2nd Annual Favorites party we had last night. As you can see my current favorites are these glasses I found at Pier 1 (I want a cupboard full of colored glass cups) and of course little cuties (how many is too many to eat in one day?), throw in some pine and you have Christmas.

richer

This is the 2nd time $5 in an envelope as come to me just for being a twin. !!!!!!
I decided I'm going to actually register myself and fill out the questionnaire.
The problem is...I feel like they'll stop sending me $5 dollars.
Who knew being a twin had so many bonuses?

Slow down, Hurry up

James Tissot The Magi Journeying

I went with my family to the Carl Bloch exhibit down at the MOA in Provo. It was a knock out. Perfect for this time of year too. I loved looking and the images of Christ. I've seen many of them before, but there were new ones too--all incredible.

Downstairs they had an exhibit for James Tissot. His detailed paintings blew me away. I have this print postcard size clipped to my December calendar.

Two things/points I wanted to make. Get down to Provo. hurry. AND also hurry over to the lds.org Christmas page. I spent all Sunday morning on it. Just what I needed.

it's a felting

I made this felt circle garland in early October. The plan was to use it as Fall decor in the kitchen, possibly living room. But I decided it'd be too cluttered looking in either room. It sat in a heap on my floor for a hot second until I noticed two giant nails sticking out of my wall. I swept the garland back and forth and this is what I got. Fall is over and I can't bear to take it down, the wall is so bleak without it.
