trail runs

After all the trail running I've been doing this spring/summer, I still have yet to repeat a trail. That's how awesome living in Salt Lake City is!

Friday morning Egan and I ran Grandeur Peak up Millcreek Canyon.

Saturday morning my cousin, Katie, and I ran Porter Fork (I think that's what it's called) up Millcreek Canyon. It was a steady incline almost the whole time. Our hearts were beating out of our chests.

Rexburg reunion

photo 2
Jonathan and Megan hosted a Rexburg reunion a few weeks ago. I am so happy they put this together because that was a goal I had this summer---get together with my college friends. We were missing SO many people, obviously, but loved catching up with these great friends. Everyone got a chance to say what they are up to and we talked about a few favorite Rexburg memories. I hope to do it again within the next 5 years. This was the only picture of the night, so you get what you get and you don't throw a fit :)

Elise came to my classroom for the afternoon to help me out. She's the BEST! I say this every time, but I wish she could be my assistant every day. She's so smart and helpful. The kids love her and she's so sweet and patient.

This countdown has been my best friend. We've been counting down since the 100th day of school. It becomes part of our daily Calendar routine to tear off a link. It didn't really start to feel exciting until 20 days left. I can't believe that we're ending another year. How can a year feel so long and so short at the same time?

My good college buddy, Bethany, came into town from Arizona and asked if she could come and teach an art lesson to my 1st graders. YOU BET!!!! She teaches are to Jr. high kids and is super talented artist. I loved seeing her teach and the sunflowers turned out so cool! Bethany and I sat in the back of the classroom and chatted while the kids worked. I love Bethany, a life-long friend.

Provo, UT

Maggie and I woke up at 3:30am (BLECH!) and drove to Provo to get on a bus to drive up the canyon to run 13.1 miles back down to the city. Why?! I guess we love running or something.
It's so fun to run half-marathons with Maggie cause we talk the whole way. Half-marathons are nice that way cause I don't feel pressure about a time. We kept a good pace and I was very pleased that I wasn't sore or anything the next day. We came in at 1:58.
I was pretty disappointed in the race organization though. Besides the start and finish lines, there were ZERO port-a-potties during the race. Very frustrating. When we were out of the canyon and headed toward the finish line in the city there were hardly any people out to support the racers. It's like Provo didn't even know there was a race going on. All good though, Maggie and I high-fived and ate a bagel at Einsteins and called it a morning.

weekly running group 1-4

Mags and I started a weekly running group a few weeks back. We've been loving it. We get a pretty different group out each week, and we've done different runs each time too. Each run has been about 5 miles and we have been loving the trail runs. Salt Lake City is the best! It's so pretty and the mountains are very accessible. Trail runs are so humbling too, you think you're in shape and then WHAM! inclines like you've never known.

Kimberly Birthday Staycation

We snagged ourselves a hotel room in downtown Salt Lake City for Kimberly's birthday back in May. Kimberly's husband, Joel, was out of town and since she was moving to California for the summer we knew that a staycation was the perfect decision. We did one back in 2010 when Teen was still living here and we were all roommates.
We had enough popcorn to feed the entire hotel and I ate so many rice krispy treats. We hot tubbed and ate treats and watched TV and were fast asleep by 12:30. Next morning was a drizzly one in SLC, so we took off for a run around Sugarhouse park and breakfast at Original Pancake House.
Luh my best friends!
