Gardening Goodness

My sister told me about CSA and how she was signing up this year. She suggested that I do too. I've been a giddy girl every since. A couple of my sisters and I are signing up for this summer. We will get weekly produce from local gardens. The produce will depend on what is growing, so really...you don't know what you're getting. From June to October I will be filling my kitchen with freshness, exploring recipes with the produce of the week, and feeling good about supporting local farming.

My roommates and I are also going to attempt a garden in our backyard. We have a great patch that gets lots of hours of sunshine and we want to give it a try. (Now only if this ridiculous snow would stop!!!)

Royal India has my heart

On Friday my girls and I treated our selves to a little end-of-the-week dinner at Royal India. All I can think about now is how much I LOVE indian food. This place was the bees knees.
I think I'll go back again this week. Who's in?

Perfection?

Taken in September. Obviously we do pretty well around a bowl of popcorn in a kitchen. I love my roommates!

I think I found it. I think I found the perfect dessert.
Discovered on Pretty.Little.World.
Via Real Simple.

After our singles ward went to the temple my homegirls and I got down to business. Homemade Popcorn and Rasberry Smores. I think we stood in the kitchen for 30 minutes oohing and awing and yumming and devouring. We all agreed. Raspberry Smores have our heart. It's the tang. A little fresh punch to an already delicious dessert. The thing I love about smores is that they are fast! And cheap! And easy!

Blitzen Trapper

Two Portland Bands in one week! What a treat.
On Friday night my girls and I went to Kilby Court to see Blitzen Trapper play.
I loved seeing them live. They rocked out! I was surprised. Like dirty-electric-guitar-rocked-out. I was also surprised at what a dude band Blitzen Trapper is. The place was packed with guys. Lots of dreads going on too.

Observations:
+lead singer is small
+lead singer has hair that kinda looks whigish
+drummer has pipes! surprisingly. nice element to have a vocalist drummer.
+the presence of a bird whistle made me happy
+wished there was more harmonica going on
+loooved that they stuck around after wards and visited, thanked people for coming out. classy.

Salsa & SXSW Downloads

This sister of mine gave me this delicious salsa recipe. And I just love it so much I had to share.
I've told you before about my addiction to corn chips. This just makes all the more reason to indulge.
Try it yourself cause it's eeeeeasy peasy!
1 clove garlic or 1 tsp minced garlic
1/4 cup coarsely chopped white onion
1 -4oz can green chilis
1 28-oz can diced tomatoes
1/2 t. celery salt
1/4 t. black pepper
1/2 t. salt
1 t. sugar
1/2 c. cilantro

Put in blender in this order and blend until smooth.

In other news. NPR All Songs Considered is giving a free download of some SXSW-ers. It's an easy download and it's free! Can't get better than that. It even has some Blind Pilot! The Decemberists! Blitzen Trapper! and these new guys I like BLK JKS!
cool.

Blind Pilot

Remember my Music Monday post about Blind Pilot awhile ago? Well, last night I saw Laura Gibson and Blind Pilot play at Urban Lounge. It was a fantastic show. The downer was how late it started. Laura Gibson didn't get up till 10:30 and so by the time Blind Pilots set was over it was 1 am. Yeesh!

I think what is so great about Blind Pilot is that I'm catching them fresh. This is their first tour so they are down to earth, the shows are small, and they are just happy to be playing. They don't get all superstar on anyone if a technical difficulties arise. When the show is over they linger around and work the merchandise booth. I like that.

The tippy-toes were killing me!

This bass action was fantastic. And the trumpet/keyboardist in the back was a gem.

My FAVORITE! I was a gushing girl, I'll admit it.

The best.

Windy Words

Today is a gusty one. Makes my mind all in a flurry. Hence another post of unrelated hoopla in a list!

My mom wants an accordian. I think I should get her one.

In my head I tell myself I could pull this off.

Note to self: Ask Grandma if she could teach me how to do this.

you should know...

+that breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. I grew up with many a delicious breakfasts and I wait all week for Saturday and Sunday when I can make a hot breakfast. Crepes, Aebleskivers, Breakfast Burritos, Omelets, Waffles, you name it...home girl likes it.

+given a karaoke machine I will sing Proud Mary by Ike and Tina Turner and it probably won't sound good, but I'll dance like Tina given the chance.

+i'm in the market for a rugged blue Levi collard shirt

+that I use words like "mind blowing" and "glorious" when talking about a new favorite music discovery

+could eat corn chips all day long (after breakfast of course)

+I'm really excited about the new Brita filter in my fridge

+currently reading Hunger Games after a long waiting list

+is craving a nature walk with these spring days upon us
