if loving you is so wrong, i don't want to be right

i'm watching 9 of my nieces and nephews tonight.
call me a hero
buuuut you should know that they are all asleep except for this one. sweet campbell is telling me the secrets of the world. If you saw this girl in the flesh you'd know the power of blue eyes and a dimple.

p.s. what did babysitters do before microwaves and tivo?

year 1

I completed my first year of teaching.
I am amazed everyday that I have this job and that I love my job.
Year 2 is near.
I got my class roster full of 22 cute names. (if you need name ideas for your kids I got em)
Who are the little kids behind those names?
I'm excited to meet them.

Thinking back to year 1, I learned:
-children need attention
-get on the floor and play with them
-laugh a lot
-smile mostly
-hug
-high five
-call them by name
-welcome them at the door to class
-dismiss them at the door
-celebrate
-encourage
-sing
-teach using visuals, tools, and lots of practice
-practice team work
-follow through
-read every day
-practice creativity
-despite all the hard work to make school fun, they will still love lunch and recess more

oops, I charded

dear chard, you're a great addition to this pizza. sincerely, me

I used this Swiss Chard Recipe as a starter, but without garlic (i don't care for it anyway) I cooked the chard down with some olive oil, lemon juice, real salt, and red pepper flakes. Using Whole Foods multi grain pizza dough I layed out the chard, sprinkled some parmesan, slices of mozzarella, and a few cherry tomatoes. Why am I telling you this? Cause it's secrets like this that should be shared with the world. Chard people, it's the new spinach.

we are all meant to shine

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

-Maryanne Williamson

{I'm not really a quotey person, and I don't think I've ever posted a quote on this blog...but my brother sent me this one and I've read it a couple times this week. It's a good one}

that's sill-e

I heard on NPR a new craze that's making kids go crazy. Silly Bandz people. I'm a sucker for this stuff. Then one of Kimberly's 3rd graders showed me her rubberbanded wrists and I made her tell me how to get some. The next day and a dollar later I was rich in the wrists. I brought some for the Cali kids too. Animals, Cars, Princess galore. They loved trading them and I envied how cute they looked all piled loosely on their wrists.

Later adulthood.

fourth dish

Bitty, Maggie, Kimberly and I drove down to California for Independence Day. We met up with the Bourne's, Egan, and Kristine. On Sunday we churched, and ate only amazing and festive foods, and went to Huntington for sub par firecrackers, but super power friends.

more fourth festivities at Teeny's blog.

color kids

Egan bought ice cream for everyone. (I'll never match her auntness.) If Campbell was dressed in orange I think the Bourne's would be a challenge for the rainbow.
Love you Bourne's, Love you Laguna

cherhub

I found this Jamie Oliver recipe for a Cherry Rhubarb Crumble.
There were a few reasons I just had to make it:

1. We (okay... Joel and Kimberly) discovered a cherry tree in our backyard. (so that's why there have been cherries on my windshield!!!!-duh jane) It's amazing. And big. And they are delicious.
2. Egan recently gave me rhubarb from her garden and I had chopped it up and put in the freezer.
3. I'm a monster

So last night I got Maggie to help me! It was a real treat. Tart and Glorious.

I substituted applesauce for butter when I made the crumbly top. It worked like a tasty charm.
