Carla Lani Cannon
Today was the funeral for my loving aunt Carla. From the time she was diagnosed with a brain tumor to her death was a short 5 1/2 weeks---on February 17, 2011. I feel so blessed to have been able to live close by during this time. To be able to visit, see the experiences my Mom spent as her primary caregiver, and be apart of the process. I loved seeing her room with enlarged pictures of all who love and adore her. I loved seeing her still beautiful hair and skin. I loved hearing her laugh still there.
Today, though emotional, also sweet. Thinking of family who has already passed on, and together with those of us still here.
I will remember Carla as a smart, beautiful, righteous women. An aunt who was interested, fun, and thoughtful. A friend who was adventurous and talented. A sister who was kind, creative, and sweet. A daughter who made her parents proud. A student of life with her endless interests in books, the french language, well traveled, active, a movie buff, an artist, a computer smarty, a gardener, photographer, and a late nighter. I love Carla.
At the cemetery we sang 'Aloha Oe' accompanied on the ukulele by my cousin James. It was so neat to sing a favorite song of Carla's, a song of her favorite place, Hawaii. A song my Grandpa would sing to his children.
Lyrics from the chorus:
- Farewell to you, farewell to you
- The charming one who dwells in the shaded bowers
- One fond embrace,
- 'Ere I depart
- Until we meet again
Sweet memories come back to me - Bringing fresh remembrances
- Of the past
- Dearest one, yes, you are mine own
- From you, true love shall never depart
