On a Sunday

A Sunday dinner at my grandma's (dad's mom) with parents, sister, brother-in-law, and cousins. There was good food, nice walk, and a card game. Really appreciate having family in neighboring cities.

Cascade Springs

While we were in Heber, UT for the Metcalf Family Reunion 2012, we spent a rainy early afternoon walking around Cascade Springs. I'd never done that before and fell in love. The rain didn't stop us and it reminded me of the many many hikes and outdoor adventures we had growing up in Seattle.

We ate our lunches out of the back of the cars and then headed to the Homestead Crater in Midway.

conversations for my runs

 Picture 18
I'm training for my first marathon (see more about that over HERE). Anytime I run 7 or more miles I select a Conversation from the Mormon Channel and that takes me through almost my whole run. It's a nice break from music, it's inspiring and interesting. I am so engaged that my runs go by quicker and I come home feeling double productive. win win.

So far I've heard from:
Virgina H. Pearce (daughter of President Hinckely and author of a book I love "A Heart Like His")
Brother and Sister Dalton (I worked for Brother Dalton and his sons at his design company, they are marathon runners!)
Elder and Sister Bednar (he was president of BYU-I for the first few years I was there)
Elder and Sister Perry (best voice, that guy)
Elder Scott and his daughter (tender loving man)
Elder and Sister Gonzalez (love her conversion story and excitement)
Elder and Sister Oaks (disciplined and hardworking couple)
Elder and Sister Clayton (one of my friends parents and enjoyed hearing about their family experiences)

Try it.

MJ and Utah Symphony

7/14/12
Deer Valley

Got a solid group to go to The Music of Michael Jackson and the Utah Symphony for a super nice Saturday evening.
We stopped at Whole Foods to divide and conquer. Everyone bought something to eat for dinner and then something to share with the group. Which really means we ended up with too much food.
(think fancy cheese, crackers, grapes, chips + salsa, Lacey's cookies, yogurt covered pretzels, carrots, on and on)
It felt good to just eat on blankets, enjoy the mountain air, jam to MJ, and talk.
Why haven't I done this before?

shut up and play the hits

 Picture 2
We saw the Sundance favorite "Shut Up and Play the Hits" last night which is about LCD Soundsystem's final show at Madison Square Gardens. I've been waiting patiently for the chance to see it and I caught it on the one-night-only at Tower Theaters. James Murphy (singer) is super fascinating. A smart man with a vision.

mermaids reunite

Kimberly and Maggie decided to come along for the ride to pick Teen up from the airport. It was pretty hilarious and the reminiscing got pretty rowdy. It was near midnight, but we made a stop at our first house on 1300 E, made our way over to our 2nd house on 2100 E, and that's when the break up started: Teen moved to California shortly after, Maggie bailed to Washington, D.C., and Kimberly got married. All good things I guess. But we were back together for a few hours and I was so happy.

year 3

 Photo 373
Reflections on year 3 of teaching:

+how did teachers ever get by before pinterest?
+we rotated classrooms this year and teaching in a room with windows made me feel so happy
+that they grow so much as writers when they write every day
+how much they love science
+hear them out, get down on their level and listen
+pick 2 students each day to focus positively on and praise them
+helpfulness of anecdotal notes
+thoroughness of directions
+being playful counts
+implementing the Common Core (new set of educational standards) was an adjustment, but successful
+thoroughness and repetitiveness
+enjoy what you do and smile! encourage students to do the same!

6/30/12
Sundance, UT

We wandered a little, grilled some corn, bbqed chicken, snacked on treats, played music, had friends come over later and join us, catch phrased, sleepover in the best loft with windows open and river sounds.
It was the best kind of low key.

Heber, UT
Red Rock Ranch

Best wedding reception I've ever been to. A summer June night with 360 degrees of jaw dropping scenery on a ranch in Heber, Utah....and that's just the beginning. The food---sushi, salads, carne asade, grilled chicken, corn bread, flaming desserts, s'mores. (ya, exactly). The live music---fun band and glamorous singer playing all the hits. The decor---not necessary because of the setting, but stunning flowers, drippy candles, long wood tables and benches. The picture taking was irresistible. No one could resist trying to capture the beauty of the place and what a thrilling event Lez and Tuck put on. Good job guys. Favorite couple too; they are individually the nicest, most self-less people I know, with great laughs, so combine them and it's powerful stuff. I'll never forget this night.
